See excel attachments:-You will be allocated two banks (HSBC Holdings plc and Barclays plc) whose balance sheets will form the basis for the assignment.
You will be required to make use of the Bankscope database to obtain the relevant data to enable you to undertake the following tasks:
1. Show how the balance between lending activity and traded assets has changed since 2005 for each bank and highlight any differences between them
2. Show how the composition of the loan portfolio (consumer loans/corporate loans/loans to other banks) has changed since 2005 for each bank and highlight any differences between them
3. Discuss the implications of these changes for the overall risks faced by the banks (paying particular attention to credit risk, market risk and liquidity risk).
You should make use of a variety of methods for presenting the data for the first two tasks.

This coursework assesses the following learning outcomes. Students should show evidence that they are able to:
1. Make use of the BankScope database in order to acquire relevant data
2. Show initiative in presenting the data in a clear and comprehensible way
3. Make meaningful comparisons between banks on the basis of the data they have collected
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the implications for a bank's risks from changes in the nature of the activities it undertakes
