A year ago Husain Abdullah and his brother Hamza put their football careers on hold in order to fulfill their religious obligations. After a year off to deal with the spiritual, Husain is ready to return to the football field and get paid. And it didn?t take the former Viking safety long to land a job. Earlier in February Husain tried out for the Chiefs, and on Monday he was officially signed by that team. The story was actually broken on Sunday by Arrowhead Pride thanks to a tipster who follows Abdullah?s Instagram account, and saw a picture posted of Abdullah?s contract.
So the lesson for all us bloggers: when your team works out a player, immediately follow that player?s Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts. And possibly Pinterest. And anything else they might have going from a social media stand-point. Cause you might get a scoop.
Those who recall Abdullah with the Vikings ? and it shouldn?t be too hard; it was only a couple years ago after all ? will remember him as a nice adequate safety who, like the majority of Vikings DBs over the years, wasn?t exactly a big playmaker. But he held his own out there and was not a terrible player. At 27, he is certainly young enough to still have a really nice career ahead of him. It wouldn?t surprise me to see him win a job with the Chiefs and even end up playing a big role with them in 2013.
